# Safeguarding Audit: Meet Your School's Section 11 Duty

> The Safeguarding Audit helps schools meet their s11 duty under the Children Act 2004 with a self-review framework aligned to Local Authority requirements.

Section 11 (s11) of the Children Act 2004 places a duty on schools to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. The Safeguarding Audit module provides a comprehensive self-review framework — pre-loaded with items drawn from multiple Local Authority audits — so you can demonstrate compliance to governors, Ofsted, and your LA.

## Key Features

* **Pre-loaded s11 items** — requirements drawn from multiple Local Authority audits covering the common core and additional local items
* **Custom items** — add items specific to your school, disable items not applicable, and archive items permanently removed from your audit
* **Assigned Safeguarding Owners** — assign owners to specific areas and items so responsibility is clearly documented
* **Automated reminders** — owners receive weekly email reminders for items that are Unapproved, Not OK, or Overdue
* **Flexible review dates** — set review dates up to 18 months ahead; defaults to annual
* **Notes** — record an explanation against each item describing how your school meets the requirement
* **Printable audit** — print the completed audit as evidence for governor review, Ofsted, or your LA

## How It Works

The module is organised into **Safeguarding Areas** containing **Safeguarding Items**. Marking an item OK automatically sets its review date to one year ahead.

If an item is already due for review within the next 4 weeks, the date rolls forward one year from the *current* due date — not from today. This prevents review dates from drifting progressively earlier each year.

Owner names appear next to their assigned items as mailto hyperlinks, making it easy to contact them directly with any queries.

<Tip>
  Since all items are sensible safeguarding checks, most schools choose to use all of the default items rather than disabling any.
