# Ofsted SEF: Structure Your Self-Evaluation for Inspection
> The Ofsted SEF module gives your school a structured framework for self-evaluation, covering context, criteria, strengths, and improvement priorities.
While Ofsted no longer requires a Self-Evaluation Form, almost every school maintains one to guide improvement and be ready for inspection. The Ofsted SEF module gives you a structured, collaborative space to evaluate your school against the framework — from high-level summaries to detailed criteria evidence.
## What the SEF Covers
The Ofsted SEF module is organised to take your school from contextual scene-setting through to detailed, criterion-by-criterion evaluation:
* **School context statements** — set the scene before evaluative sections, so that any reader understands your school's circumstances
* **Progress against the previous inspection's priorities** — record the key priorities from your last Ofsted report and document your school's response to them
* **High-level school development plan summary** — capture your current development plan at a summary level, echoed across the relevant framework areas
* **For each Ofsted framework area:**
* Individual criteria evaluations — record your school's position against each criterion
* Optional evidence detail — add supporting evidence at the level of detail that suits your school
* Outstanding descriptor review — evaluate against the descriptors for outstanding and record supporting evidence
* A four-part area summary — actions taken, impact of those actions, current strengths, and priorities for further development
## Key Features
* **Evaluate at every level** — assess individual criteria in detail, then zoom out to a high-level area summary of strengths and development priorities
* **Hyperlink detailed evidence** — attach or link supporting evidence directly to the relevant criteria evaluation
* **Single-page area summaries** — each framework area produces a one-page summary covering actions, impact, strengths, and priorities, ideal for governors and wider staff
* **Dedicated context and inspection sections** — record contextual information and previous inspection priorities in their own structured sections, separate from evaluative content
The area summaries — one page per framework area — are very useful for sharing with governors, senior leaders, and all staff. They give a single-page picture of actions, impact, strengths, and priorities.
