# Getting Started with Professional Standards in Clever School

> Enable Professional Standards, load your chosen framework, and invite staff to begin self-reflection and evidence gathering in Clever School Systems.

Follow the steps below to enable the Professional Standards module and make it available to your staff.

## Quick Start

  <Step title="Enable the module">
    Go to **Administration > Modules** and enable **Professional Standards**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Assign a Standards Manager">
    Go to **Administration > Users** and assign the **Standards Manager** role to the appropriate member(s) of staff.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Load a framework">
    Contact [support@cleverschool.systems](mailto:support@cleverschool.systems) to have a recognised professional standards framework pre-loaded for your school. Schools and MATs can also request a custom framework if you use your own internal standards descriptions.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the module">
    Reload the page and select **Professional Standards** from the sidebar to confirm the framework is in place and ready for use.

  <Step title="Staff begin self-reflection">
    Each staff member can now open the module, work through the standards framework, record self-assessments, and upload evidence for individual standards.
  </Step>

## Using the Module as a Staff Member

Once the module is set up, staff can engage with it independently:

1. Navigate to **Professional Standards** in the sidebar.
2. Work through the standards at your own pace — the module does not impose deadlines.
3. For each standard, record your **self-assessment** to reflect on your current level of practice.
4. Optionally, upload **supporting evidence** — such as lesson observations, pupil feedback, or CPD records — to substantiate your self-assessment.
5. When you are ready for a developmental conversation, share your record with a coach or mentor by granting them access from the **sharing options** within the module.

  The module works well alongside the appraisal cycle — staff can use their standards reflection to inform their Professional Development objective and bring evidence of growth to the final review conversation.
