Initial setup must be carried out by an Administrator. Once a Safety Manager is assigned, they can manage ongoing configuration.
Initial setup requires Administrator access.

Quick Start

1

Enable the module

Go to Administration > Modules and enable Safety Audit.
2

Assign a Safety Manager

In Administration > Users, assign the Safety Manager role to one or more staff members.
Until at least one Safety Manager is assigned, Administrators receive weekly alerts prompting you to complete this step.
3

Open the module

Reload the page and select Safety Audit from the main navigation sidebar.
4

Explore

Browse the 35 default Safety Areas and 280 Items. Assign relevant items to SLT members or individual staff to establish ownership from the start.

Further Configuration

Access the management panel from the Manage option in the top-right dropdown menu.
The following configuration steps are available to Safety Managers:
  • Assign Safety Owners — assign owners to Safety Areas or individual items; owners receive automated weekly email reminders when items are Unapproved, Not OK, or Overdue
  • Disable inapplicable items — for example, disable swimming pool checks if your school does not have a pool
  • Archive items — permanently remove items that will never apply to your school
  • Add custom requirements — add any additional H&S requirements specific to your school
  • Set review dates — review dates default to annual; set them up to 18 months ahead to match your review cycle
Review dates will initially all be empty. Set dates once you have completed the initial audit.

Day-to-Day Operation

  • Owners receive weekly email reminders for items that are Unapproved, Not OK, or Overdue — plus items due for review within the next 4 weeks
  • When you mark an item OK, the review date is set to one year ahead. If the item is due within the next 4 weeks, the date rolls forward one year from the current due date — keeping your review cycle on track
  • Record notes against each item to document how your school complies or plans to improve
  • Click an owner’s name next to any item to send them a quick email query
  • Print the completed audit for governors
