What the SEF Covers
The Ofsted SEF module is organised to take your school from contextual scene-setting through to detailed, criterion-by-criterion evaluation:- School context statements — set the scene before evaluative sections, so that any reader understands your school’s circumstances
- Progress against the previous inspection’s priorities — record the key priorities from your last Ofsted report and document your school’s response to them
- High-level school development plan summary — capture your current development plan at a summary level, echoed across the relevant framework areas
- For each Ofsted framework area:
- Individual criteria evaluations — record your school’s position against each criterion
- Optional evidence detail — add supporting evidence at the level of detail that suits your school
- Outstanding descriptor review — evaluate against the descriptors for outstanding and record supporting evidence
- A four-part area summary — actions taken, impact of those actions, current strengths, and priorities for further development
Key Features
- Evaluate at every level — assess individual criteria in detail, then zoom out to a high-level area summary of strengths and development priorities
- Hyperlink detailed evidence — attach or link supporting evidence directly to the relevant criteria evaluation
- Single-page area summaries — each framework area produces a one-page summary covering actions, impact, strengths, and priorities, ideal for governors and wider staff
- Dedicated context and inspection sections — record contextual information and previous inspection priorities in their own structured sections, separate from evaluative content
