The Ofsted SEF module gives your leadership team a single, structured space to build and maintain your school’s self-evaluation document. Follow the steps below to enable it and begin working through the framework.
Initial setup requires Administrator access.

Quick Start

1

Enable the module

Go to Administration > Modules and enable Ofsted SEF.
2

Assign an SEF Manager

Go to Administration > Users and assign the SEF Manager role to the relevant senior leaders. SEF Managers can create and edit content throughout the module.
3

Open the module

Reload the page and select Ofsted SEF from the sidebar to open the module.
4

Complete the context section

Record your school’s contextual statements to set the scene for evaluators. Include relevant information about your school’s circumstances, intake, and any factors that shape your self-evaluation.
5

Complete previous inspection priorities

Record the key priorities identified in your last Ofsted report and document your school’s response to each one.

Working Through the Framework

Once you have completed the context and previous inspection sections, work through each framework area in turn:
  1. Navigate to a framework area using the sidebar.
  2. For each individual criterion, record your school’s evaluation. Optionally, add supporting evidence — you can hyperlink to detailed documents where evidence is extensive.
  3. Review the outstanding descriptors for the area and record your evaluation and evidence against them.
  4. Once you have evaluated the individual criteria, write the four-part area summary:
    • Actions taken — what your school has done in this area
    • Impact of actions — the difference those actions have made
    • Current strengths — what your school does well in this area
    • Priorities for development — what you are focusing on next
You can share the completed area summaries with governors and staff — they provide a concise single-page view of each inspection area.

Preparing for Inspection

  • The SEF can be printed and shared with inspectors on arrival.
  • Keep the document up to date throughout the year — it is an ongoing working document, not just an inspection preparation exercise.
